Bach meets Brazil – a unique transatlantic journey
Renowned cellist and musical innovator Matthew Barley curates an orchestral journey like no other. Underpinned by the elemental music of J.S. Bach and connected by fragments of improvisation, this programme uncovers links between the music of Argentina, Brazil, North America and Europe.
A UK classical cellist, Matthew has been on a mission to understand and master the art of improvisation for the last 30 years, exhilarated by the fear of freedom. In the late 90’s, Matthew began to introduce improvisation into recital programmes, and fell in love with the thrill of siting in front of an expectant audience not knowing what note he would play until he played it!
