Tchaikovsky’s earthy and uplifting Souvenir de Florence gives little clue as to his admiration for Mozart. He described Mozart as a ‘musical Christ’ and how listening to his music had awakened in him a ‘passionate worship for that genius’. We will hear an encapsulation of that Christ-like genius in a new arrangement of the Sinfonia Concertante by OOTS artistic director David Le Page.
Richard Strauss’s perfectly conceived ‘conversation piece’ from his opera Cappricio opens the concert.
