Tasmin Little plays Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire

Vivaldi – Concerto Grosso in D minor
Arvo Pärt – Fratres
Victoria Benito – This is only a work of fiction (world premiere)
Bach – Concerto for Two Violins
Vivaldi – The Four Seasons

Tasmin Little – violin/director
David Le Page – violin/director (Concerto Grosso)

Revolving around the production of the most thrilling ambience, this concert features two fabulous concertos. The central movement of the Bach contains some of the most sublime music ever written. Additionally, Arvo Pärt’s atmospheric set of variations, Fratres, based on a six-bar theme, was written for three parts – the instrumentation not originally specified: although we will hear it in the composer’s 1992 ‘authorized version’ for violin (played by Tasmin), strings and percussion. And we end with Vivaldi’s timeless evocation of the passing year – four three-movement violin concertos transporting us from the burgeoning warmth of spring to the “icy snow [and] harsh breath” of winter. The programme will include a new commission by Victoria Benito, a student of composition at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
