Phil Brookes

Phil has been the principal bassoonist of The Swan for most of the orchestra’s 27 years. 

 
Mozart Bassoon Concerto

During that time, he has twice performed the Mozart Bassoon Concerto, as well as the Haydn Concertante.

Away from The Swan, Phil works with Mid Wales Opera, Longborough Festival Opera, the RSC and the CBSO.

 
Teaching in Birmingham and Warwick

He teaches in schools across Birmingham and Warwick, as well as tutoring local youth orchestras.

Family Ties 

He is married to Martha Ann, who is principal trombonist of The Swan . He also provides a free taxi service to his two children, bassoonist Verity, and trombonist Robert. In his limited free time, he enjoys watching Moseley RFC and avidly supporting the brewing industry. Phil also attempts to sing tenor in his local church choir, much to the amusement of his family.
