Description
…One of the main attractions of this album is the intelligent and imaginative planning… April Frederick is a light-toned soprano with a most pleasing timbre and impressive projection – she can certainly hold a long-sustained note with supreme artistry and confidence… Music Web International
The newest disk to the Orchestra of the Swan collection features American soprano April Frederik singing evocative songs by Barber, Copland as well as Gershwin’s Summertime.
The disk was recorded last May at the Civic Hall in Stratford-upon-Avon during the Orchestra’s Spring Sounds Festival.
April Frederik, Kathleen Ferrier Awards semi-finalist 2009, singings Copland’s Eight Songs by Emily Dickinson, Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, and Gershwin’s Summertime.
The disk, conducted by David Curtis, also includes the Barber Capricorn Concerto and Copland’s Quiet City featuring breathtaking solos from Hugh Davies as a lonely jazz trumpet player amongst the haunting deserted streets of a great city.
The perfect way to relax and unwind on a summers afternoon…
