‘A breathtaking weave of words and music…’

‘A wonderful hour of music and story telling.’ Colin Clarke, Classical Explorer

“The performance is magical, the swathes of harp against  gorgeous toned flute. But maybe it was the fragility of some of the string playing that was most atmospheric…”

Wind, Sand & Stars, part of the Night Owl Digital Concert Series, is a fascinating and beautiful weave of music and readings from Saint-Exupéry, the concert explores the pre-war world of the pioneer pilot, when to be a pilot was a thing of wonder: from the velvet minimalist chords of Satie to the brightly polished and exquisite whirring world of Ravel; from the exotic flavours of Debussy to the grit and pathos of Montmartre Chanson.

Music by Ravel, Debussy, Saint-Saens, Satie and Piazzolla with text by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author (Le Petit Prince), philosopher and pioneer pilot.

Loved this idea of combining the profound words of Saint-Exupery from his book «Wind, Sand and Stars » with the such hauntingly beautiful pieces of music.
Your narrator was superb and seeing musicians, in the same room, making eye contact gave me goosebumps!
    Congratulations on a brilliant performance.

    Merci!

I thoroughly enjoyed the concert. I felt the music captured the feelings and thoughts expressed in the words with a lightness and panache suggestive of the thrill of flight.

David Hope and I just wanted to tell you how very much we enjoyed the above. We shall certainly watch and listen again before our viewing expires. We cannot commend you all highly enough on how you have ‘risen above’ during this horrid pandemic.
The atmosphere created for both Luna and this are amazing – is that REALLY our dear old Playhouse?!
David’s playing is literally out of this world and he has achieved the added joy of getting that bit more out of already exceptional players. We also thought how well the text – so beautifully read by Graham Padden – worked with the perfectly chosen music. How very lucky your audiences are.
Pure magic – thank you. A wonderful ‘escape. With very best wishes from us both.

    • Orchestra of the Swan

Thank you so much for your lovely words Cat and David.
