We took five with violinist Tai Murray ahead of her performance of Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 next month.
We’re really looking forward to having you perform with us in our ‘From a Far Country’ concert, performing Bruch’s Violin Concerto? Have you performed this Concerto before and if so what was the most memorable venue you’ve performed it in?
At the Hollywood Bowl for 8000 people.
Who introduced you to the violin and how old were you when you started playing?
Apparently, I essentially did. I made an early request for a violin and never changed my mind.
Who are your violin heroes?
Everyone that has ever said they would prefer to practice violin instead of do anything else.
Is there an instrument that you don’t play that you wish you did?
Not really, it took long enough to arrive here on the violin.
Can you tell us about the origins of your violin?
It’s a Tommaso Balestrieri, circa 1760, made in Mantova. I took it back for a visit, it shrugged, and got on with sounding fabulous.
Tai Murray performs Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in ‘From a Far Country’ at Stratford Play House (Sunday 9 October 3pm) and The Courtyard Hereford (Tuesday 11 October 7:30pm).Â
