Young Musicians invited to Come and Play Day

Young Musicians Invited to Orchestra of the Swan’s CV34 Come and Play Day

Young musicians living in the CV34 area of Warwickshire are once again being invited to take part in Orchestra of the Swan’s popular Come and Play Day, returning for its fifth year.

The annual event, in partnership with Warwick Schools Foundation, has become a highlight for young instrumentalists across the region. Last year saw 78 students from a range of local schools come together for a day of music-making, many of them beginners who had only recently started learning their instruments. The students had been preparing their pieces through the CV34 school visits programme, delivered by musicians from Orchestra of the Swan.

Participants will have the opportunity to work with a professional conductor, this year being Leo Jaffrey, play alongside our professional musicians, and end the day with a concert for parents and guardians, all in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Previous Come and Play Days have been led by conductor Enyi Okpara, who recently directed the Swan Youth Orchestra Weekend Course. Under his baton, students have tackled exciting orchestral repertoire including arrangements of Dvořák’s New World Symphony and the BBC Ten Pieces arrangement of Beethoven’s Symphony No.5. These works connected directly with the orchestra’s CV34 workshops, where pupils explored Beethoven’s symphony in detail before bringing the music to life together in performance.

By bringing together young players from across the CV34 area, the Come and Play Day continues to inspire the next generation of musicians, giving them the opportunity to experience the thrill of performing orchestral music together and to develop their skills alongside professional musicians from Orchestra of the Swan.

The impact of the event is reflected in the feedback from parents, many of whom have seen their children’s confidence and enthusiasm for music grow:

“S has only been learning the violin for a couple of months. To see them play in a concert was mind blowing! I’m so excited to see where our budding musician goes with this.” – Parent

“We believe that he gained more confidence to get involved and play music in a new group / orchestra.” – Parent of a child attending Coten End Primary School

“She wants to play in the orchestra when she grows up.” – Parent of a child attending Newburgh Primary School
