On the evening of Friday 25 September, St Nicholas Church, Warwick will be transformed into an extraordinary environment of sound, light and live performance as Orchestra of the Swan presents Celestial Revelations.
Inspired by the writings and visions of the 12th-century mystic, composer and visionary Hildegard of Bingen, Celestial Revelations draws on her idea of viriditas – the greening, life-giving force that flows through humanity, nature and the divine. Music, light and projected imagery evolve organically throughout the church, creating an immersive environment that is constantly shifting and responding around the audience.
Four musicians from Orchestra of the Swan will perform live in from within the installation itself, interacting with an evolving electronic sound world manipulated in real time. Live performance, projection and architecture become part of a single unfolding experience.
Audiences are invited to experience the installation in their own way. Whether that’s by sitting or lying down, wandering around the church or remaining still. Every person’s experience will be unique; audiences are welcome to bring their own mats to sit or lie on.
On arrival, participants will be invited to complete a short mood questionnaire before being welcomed into the installation by Gestalt Therapist, Wanjiku Nyachae. After the performance participants will be invited to record their reflections. These responses form an important part of the project’s continuing exploration of how immersive artistic experiences can influence wellbeing, human connection and our relationship with the spaces we inhabit.
There are three performances taking place at 7.15pm, 8.30pm, and 9.45pm. Those registering will be able to select their preferred time slot, although places and preferred slots are subject to availability. The total experience will take approximately 1 hours 5 mins including a 35–40-minute performance. Admission is free, but places are limited and participants will need to register their interest in advance
