Swan players have been delivering workshops at Sense TouchBase Pears in Selly Oak, Birmingham since July 2022. Sense is a community centre that specialises in working with people with complex disabilities, particularly the Deafblind.

Each season, Swan players deliver two strands of workshop activity:

  • Monthly 1-2-1 music sessions for severely disabled clients supported by the centre’s Music Lead.
  • A monthly Café Muse, a music-led participative community café, split into two hour-long sessions, one for early years children and one for adults who access Sense Day and Residential Services, reaching up to 40 participants per month. Sense Day Services include Base Camp (adults with complex disabilities) and Sense College (16-15yr olds with complex disabilities. Residential services refer to the wider community that access Sense, including local residential care centres. To find out more about Café Muse and to book onto a session please call 01926 350028.

"There were some really special moments – and the smile on the face of the little boy after feeling the vibrations of my cello through his feet will stay with me for a long time – a truly special moment!"

"We played Jurassic Park a lot, often utilizing the vibrating backpack with the microphone near to the cello so that the art maker could feel lots of the instrument’s resonance"

"I'm truly grateful for the patience and care you displayed during the sessions"
