Orchestra of the Swan New Season

Echoes Digital Concert

Our latest digital concert featuring Catalan singer Clara Sanabras is out now!

Echoes was filmed at The Grange at Northington in October 2022, an incredibly beautiful National Monument under the guardianship of English Heritage, with a long history dating back to the mid-17th Century.   Using drone technology, this 29-minute film weaves its way from the landscaped park via the resplendent Doric portico into the magnificent neoclassical residence that resembles a Greek temple.  After years of neglect, the house was dramatically saved from demolition in 1975 when it was taken into state care, and now provides a striking venue for the annual Grange Festival Opera.

Devised by David le Page, this evocative film takes the viewers through the dilapidated rooms and up the stately staircase, resonating with the echoes of its past life, incorporating stunningly performed tracks by Max Richter, Bach, Philip Sheppard, Manuel de Falla, David Le Page, and Philip Glass, culminating in an arrangement by David Le Page of ‘Glory Box’ by Portishead.

This digital concert is released in support of Orchestra of the Swan’s latest mixtape album of the same name, released on the Signum Classics label in May 2023, which combined with The Swan’s prior mixtape albums – Timelapse (released in January 2021) and Labyrinths (November 2021) – have now audio streamed over 10 million times. To quote directly from Apple, who reviewed this album: “Resist the temptation to cherry pick and listen to his beautifully curated album from end to end.  There are numerous ingenious juxtapositions on this clever mixtape concept album, not least David Le Page’s stunning orchestrations, and the superbly responsive playing of the Orchestra of the Swan.  The album conjures up numerous sensations of colour and light thanks to the vivid recording.  The style and ambition that places Frank Zappa next to Manuel de Falla, or Philip Glass between Delius and Finzi – let alone serve up Lou Reed’s ‘Venus in Furs’ in such company – gives you a fair idea of the glorious genre-hopping that these musicians have made their own.”

Achieving No.3 in the US Billboard Charts, No.2 in the US itop charts, and Scala Radios Album of the Weekend on its release in May, Echoes contains brilliant and imaginative orchestrations, that work beautifully in a cinematic setting such as The Grange at Northington.
