The Big Give Christmas Campaign

We have been especially fortunate to be chosen as one of the Big Give Christmas Charities for 2023. The Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign.  For seven days it offers our donors the opportunity to have every donation they make doubled.

By supporting us during this vital week, it helps us to work tirelessly to make music accessible for people living with complex disabilities, visual impairment, and dementia within our regional community; to release high quality recordings and deliver concert programmes that straddle multiple art forms with guest artists from differing genres; and to undertake inspirational workshops to regional state schools that are free to recipients.

The Christmas Challenge, founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir Alec Reed CBE, is the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign. For seven days, it offers our donors and friends the opportunity to have every donation they make doubled.

Classical Music is often seen as elitist, associated with wealth and privilege & surrounded by a culture that is resistant to change. We set out to show that classical music is for everyone, regardless of socio-economic circumstances, by delivering:
• high-quality live and digital concert programmes & recordings that straddle multiple art forms, with guest artists from differing genres;
• inspirational workshops that are free to recipients in regional state schools, for the visually impaired, for those with complex disabilities and through our dementia friendly Café Muse for marginalised rural communities.

We go to great lengths to source funding to ensure we can deliver meaningful orchestral engagement that is accessible to all.
In a typical year we can achieve:
• Upwards of 75 x 4-hour dementia-friendly Café Muse in Stratford, Southam & Hereford, and 56 half-day workshops in around 20 regional care homes engaging more than 3,000 people living with dementia, their carers & families; delivered by 27 trained players (by Mindsong – music therapists);
• 54 half day workshops for pupils at Priestley Smith School living with visual impairment and young people living with complex disabilities at Sense TouchBase Pears, delivered by 12 trained players;
• Over 2000 school children enjoying music workshops & illustrative assemblies; and the formation of a Swan Youth Orchestra for talented pupils aged 11-18 who have achieved Grade VI or higher on their instrument;
• 45+ concerts with diverse guest artists, international soloists and young performers;
• A cross genre album and digital concert that increases our global audio-streaming reach (which is currently at 11.5 million).
